After all these years of searching for reasons that I was able to achieve what 99.99% of athletes couldn’t. As in most things in life, it all came down to the most basic principle that I learned (as I’m sure most people do and take for granted, as I did) from my parents.
My mother always used to say to us, over and over again…”You made your bed…you lie in it!” Along with another one of her favorites…”This is not a dressed rehearsal!”
Basically telling us, “it’s your life!” The choices you make will make or break you. But they are your choices and you have to live with them…good or bad! Live your life to the fullest, you only have one and when it’s done…it’s done.
Those words were ingrained in my head for years. They became second nature and I took them for granted. But what a lesson. I have been searching for all of the outside influences that shaped my life for the past few decades, when all along they were with me every day. Gone unnoticed. It was my own “Acres of Diamonds.” I was searching the world to find how and why I did what I did when all along the answer was right in my own backyard.
Everything you do in life, every small detail, shapes you and forms the life you have…the life you want. You are exactly where you are supposed to be according to the choices you have made. If you want to change where you are, you must change the choices you make. Again, it’s that simple. It is all the little things you do in your life that make the biggest differences. You might not notice them right away, but they add up. All of the right choices you make will add up to huge successes…eventually. And, all of the wrong choices you make will add up to huge disappointment…eventually.
There are 2 very important aspects to the last statement:
- All of those tiny seemingly inconsequential decisions “WILL” add up and have a huge impact on your life…good or bad. It is just a universal law.
- The good decisions will have an enormously positive effect on your life and the negative decisions will have an enormous negative effect on your life. The good news it, that if you are willing to take the chances. If you are willing to take the risks. If you are willing to give it a shot and fall on your face. And if you are willing to look at the lessons that come from falling on your face, all of the bad choices can be turned into good. It’s a win-win! But you have to take responsibility for it all. The good and the bad. It all comes back to YOU! Are ou willing to “Do Whatever it Takes?”
